爱无边界 ｜ BOUNDLESS
“Ku’er” is the Chinese transliteration of the English word “queer”, which originally meant odd, eccentric, or unconventional. Its meaning has evolved from an adjective that demeans sexual minorities to one that celebrates those who are unique and extraordinary. It is non-traditional and non-binary, and carries a positive connotation.
We thrive because of our differences. Queers have never needed to change themselves. It is social prejudices that need to be fixed.
Since its establishment, SHQFF has been devoted to exploring broader queer culture through multi-perspective film art and integrated off-line activities. We have no intention to further clarify what queer is, because all definitions are limitations; we have no intention to challenge the boundaries of queerness, because queerness is boundless.
BOUNDLESS is the theme for SHQFF 2020, moving beyond the restrictions of definitions and presenting a mosaic of boundless queer identities.
We believe that queerness is not a simple and stereotyped label, and queer film is broader than what is popular in the mainstream. This year, our selected features focus more on the diversity and intersections of queer identities. Together with our audience, we look forward to finding ourselves in relatable stories or finding resonance in unfamiliar stories. From a multitude of racial and cultural identities to shifting gender and sexual identities, from universal values of equality to unique personal experiences, on and off the silver screen, we are always pushing the boundaries.
This is our invitation for you: come and join us, erase boundaries, and embrace diversity through these extraordinary stories!
