SHQFF Outreach Screening: “TALES OF TWO CITIES”

台湾地区司法机构5月24日宣告台湾现行婚姻规定“未能使同性别二人结合”，违反婚姻自由与平等权——这一结果将推动台湾成为亚洲第一个同性婚姻合法化的社会。台湾在同性婚姻合法化的道路上风雨兼程起码走过了三十年，其中不乏各方社团的奋斗和努力，尤其是年轻人的力量。

或许你会好奇在LGBTQ运动最如火如荼的华人地区——台湾的LGBTQ大学生社团是怎样的状况，或许你也想知道在这座人来人往、思想包容开放然而LGBTQ运动仍方兴未艾的城市——上海的LGBTQ大学生社团又如何运作活动，那么这个6月，请跟随我们的脚步，听一听大学生和知名LGBTQ问题研究学者来向你讲述，LGBTQ运动的“双城故事”。

On May 24th, 2017, the Council of Grand Justices of Taiwan ruled that the Civil Code, which states that marriage must be between a man and a woman, ”violated” constitutional guarantees of freedom and marriage equality- this has made Taiwan the first nation in Asia to recognize gay marriage. Activists in Taiwan have been fighting on this journey for more than 30 years, in which countless people and civil society organizations have made huge contributions, especially from those younger generations.

So, how are LGBTQ student groups managing their work in Taipei, the city where LGBTQ movements prevail? What comparisons can we draw between these organizers and those who operate in a crowded but open city like Shanghai？

On June 4th, Shanghai Queer Film Festival invited some of the pioneering youngsters and professional academics in LGBTQ-related fields to talk about the “tale of two cities”.

故事是拿来讲述的。在现场，活动主持人、上海纽约大学的性别政治专业生陈梓青Roman Chen会展示自己的论文研究成果，讲述上海与台北两城的在校大学生在开展活动时遇到的机遇与挑战。

同时，SHQFF还会在现场放映两部优秀电影《杀死那只同性恋》《来自阴道》，电影不长，如果你意犹未尽，还可以与现场专注“性”与“性别”研究的嘉宾教授专家及同学同仁们交流互动。

The event will be hosted by Roman Chen, a graduate student studying gender politics at NYU Shanghai. He will showcase his research project on LGBTQ student groups in both cities and talk about the opportunities and challenges they are facing within their movements as they push forward for improving the quality of life for local LGBTQ people. 

SHQFF will be screening two related films made by two acclaimed Chinese filmmakers and activists. After the screening, we will follow up with an open discussion with the professors who will share their  professional insight on LGBTQ issues and their personal experiences with the students in the universities.

《来自阴道》

2003年12月，广州中山大学中文系公演了《阴道独白》。自此，这部来自美国、致力于消除性别暴力的女性主义戏剧，在中国大陆燃起了一股“阴道之火”。上海复旦大学知和社、上海海狸社、北京Bcome小组，不同的剧组用不同的方式演绎。她们在学校演、在小剧场演、在咖啡馆演、在街头演、在地铁里演。《阴道独白》也有了自己的中国名字：《阴DAO多云》《阴道之道》《将阴道独白到底》。

<The VaChina Monologues>

Fan Popo | 28’| 2013  China

“Vagina….I’ve said it!” Leading Chinese queer film maker Fan Popo’s latest film The VaChina Monologues is a playful yet highly engaging short documentary focusing on performances of Eve Ensler’s famous feminist episodic play throughout China, following its debut by The Chinese Department of Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou in December 2003. The film features a variety of academic, theatre and social organisations, including the Zhihe Society of Fudan University, the Shanghai Beaver Club, and the Beijing Become Group all putting on the play in different ways and venues, from stages to the streets and public transport. Given many different Chinese names, such as Cloudy Vagina, Our Vaginas, OurSelves, and For Vagina’s Sake.

《杀死那只同性恋》

One person: Qiu Bai, a lesbian. Two space-times: dream and reality. Two story lines in the dream: Qiu Bai reads out some homophobic sentences from Chinese textbooks in public; Qiu Bai is having sex with another lesbian.
